studio bildende kunst Berlin-Baumschulenweg

Subject

Art Gallery

Description

First opened in 1979, the gallery originally featured work from amateur and local artists. In 1983, Christoph Tannert and Peter Lang joined gallerist Uta-Barbara Schifferdecker on the gallery council and began a new program focused on young artists from across the GDR, neo-expressive painters, and other non-traditional artists. In 1985, computer artist Horst Bartnig pasted images of his work on the sidewalk outside the gallery. Contstanz Albrecht took over leadership of the gallery in 1988, after Schiffdecker fell into trouble regarding gallery programming. Albrecht ran the gallery with F. Longest Stein from the Galerie Treptow from 1990 to the gallery's closing in 1998.
